How to turn off your water in an emergency
Find your internal stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink, and turn it clockwise until it stops. This shuts off the mains water to the house.
What to check
- Other common places are a downstairs toilet, under the stairs, or by the front door.
- If it's stiff, don't force it with tools. Call me and I'll talk you through other options.
- Then open the cold taps to drain the pipes. If water is near electrics, switch them off at the fuse box.
- Find your stopcock now, before you need it. It saves a lot of stress later.
